The 3 types of designs are:
1. Text
2. HTML
3. Rich Media

Firstly plain text is what most of us would probably be familiar with.

HTML provides catchy graphics, attractive formatting, varied text style, colour, size and font. It looks very much like a web page but delivered within your email program.

Rich Media text is like a mini television commercial or animation that is displayed in your email.

It's important to offer people the choice to choose what type of 'email' they wish to receive. Your bulk email marketing software should be able to send the selected type to the appropriate recipient.

A few pointers when considering which format to use:
· Industry Response rate for plain text - 10-15%
· Industry Response rate for HTML - 25-30%
· HTML - Catchy graphics, attractive formatting, varied text style (color, size, and font)
· Rich media eg streaming video, sound no known industry response rate as yet
· Not all email software has HTML capability

It's important to ensure your bulk email marketing software will allow you to work with a good variety of email programs.

1. Don't forget to ask how they would like to receive their email when they first sign-up!
2. If they want to receive a message in plain text - you can also provide a link at the end of the message, which takes people to the HTML version.
3. Don't forget to test your email message - as it will be displayed differently across different email programs.

The most notable difference is Microsoft Outlook will not accept HTML messages. Therefore - you should have an email message designed for plain text and the same email message designed for HTML.
